Alarm
No. 684
Once again. As in 1909.
Built in 1909.
Taking shape
again today.
Alarm was designed by Nathanael G. Herreshoff for Max Agassiz and built in 1909 by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in Bristol, Rhode Island.
Immediately after her launch, the Sonderklasse stood out for her unusual lines. Contemporary reports described her as distinctly different from the other boats in her class.
A yacht that stood out even then.
After her arrival in Marblehead, Alarm attracted attention for her distinctive appearance. Her long overhangs and characteristic lines made her unmistakable within the Sonderklasse.
The original is documented.
Historic construction documents survive for No. 684 – including construction drawings, sail and spar plans, offset data and further technical details.
They form the basis for the new build at Windwood Boats: not from a memory of Alarm, but from her documented lines and construction data.
1909 → today.
Today, Alarm No. 684 is taking shape again. The new build at Windwood Boats is based on the historic documents, with the aim of bringing the original construction back to life in wood.
What begins as a line on a drawing becomes a yacht once more.
